GIFTAN-HC tablet is used to treat hypertension. Losartan is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels by blocking the hormone angiotensin. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that excretes excess water and electrolytes from the body and through urine. It also works by relaxing blood vessels and improving blood flow. GIFTAN-HC tablet is used alone or in combination with other medications.
Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, hypokalemia, hypercalcaemia, hyponatraemia, liver impairment, renal impairment, gout.
babies: nil.
lactating mothers: it is contraindicated due to studies that have shown evidence of medicine in breast milk.
it causes toxicity to the baby.
pregnancy: it is contraindicated in pregnancy.
seek doctor advice before using this medication.
driving: hydrochlorothiazide and losartan potassium tablet may cause dizziness and drowsiness.
do not drive if these symptoms occur.
alcohol: safe if prescribed by your doctor.
liver: hydrochlorothiazide and losartan potassium tablet should be used in caution with patients suffering from liver disease.

• Consume plenty of water and keep yourself well-hydrated while on GIFTAN-HC
• It could lead to more frequent urination.
To avoid waking up to urinate, take it at least 4 hours before bedtime
• It may cause an increase in potassium levels in the blood.
Avoid foods that are high in potassium, such as bananas, and broccoli.
• Pregnancy needs to be avoided for a period of 6 months from the stop of the last dose.
as it may cause harmful effects to the baby..
contraindicated
• (hydrochlorothiazide + losartan potassium) + aliskiren: concurrent use leads to reduction in the the effects of aliskiren by losartan.
the use of aliskiren with arbs is contraindicated in diabetic patients; avoid coadministration with arbs if gfr is low.
coadministration of arbs with drugs that affect raas may increase the risk of renal impairment (including acute renal failure) and cause loss of antihypertensive effect in patients who are elderly, volume-depleted (including those on diuretic therapy), or have compromised renal function.
on a regular basis, check the renal function.
serious
• (hydrochlorothiazide + losartan potassium) + abametapir: concurrent use leads to decrease in levels of losartan by affecting hepatic/intestinal enzyme cyp3a4 metabolism
• (hydrochlorothiazide + losartan potassium) + benazepril: concurrent use leads to increased toxicity of either of them by pharmacodynamic synergism leading to increase risk of hypotension, hyperkalemia and renal impairment
• (hydrochlorothiazide + losartan potassium) + lithium: concurrent use leads to increased toxicity of lithium by decreasing its renal clearance
monitor closely
• (hydrochlorothiazide + losartan potassium) + acebutolol: concurrent use leads to increased serum potassium levels due to pharmacodynamic synergism
• (hydrochlorothiazide + losartan potassium) + albiglutide: concurrent use leads to increased effects of albigutide by losartan as it enhances hypoglycemic effects of albiglutide.
